Most of the best deals for electricity are in the western United States, according to a Social Explorer analysis of 2017-21 American Community Survey data. Only 7.5 percent of Americans have a monthly power bill less than $50. The 10 counties with the greatest percentage of households paying less than $50 monthly, however, are all west of the Rocky Mountains.

Among counties with more than 10,000 housing units, 27.4 percent of households in Santa Barbara County, Calif., have a monthly power bill that averages less than $50. It’s followed by San Francisco County, Calif., one of the most expensive places in the nation for housing (26.5 percent); and Chelan County, Wash. (25.7 percent). On the other end of the scale, only 0.2 percent of households in Jackson County, Fla., have a small power bill, followed by Hancock County, Miss. (0.3 percent), and Williamsburg County, S.C. (0.3 percent).
